Because as everybody knows, the secret behind every American success story and triumph of the last century is a good coffee.
Coffee fuels the thinkers, the doers, and the creative forces that put America on the world map and started us down the path that saw us become a global superpower.
It was the life-blood that NASA thrived on in their marathon quest to put a man on the moon, it gave a kick-start to the men and women who built Detroit and Silicon Valley and inspired the scientific, literary, and engineering geniuses that have made our society everything that it is today.
And we wouldn’t be at all surprised if someone told us that there had been a pot of coffee bubbling away in the background when the founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence.
But coffee has come a long way in the twenty five-decade history of our country, and as our need and desire to consume coffee increases with the march of progress, so do the endlessly inventive and easy ways that we brew and consume it.
The pace at which we live our lives has rocketed out of control, and as such we’ve become ever more demanding and have sought, and expected, more from our daily doses of caffeine.
In an effort to satiate the pressure to satisfy the needs of the average American coffee drinker, more and more companies have risen to meet our caffeine supply crisis head-on, and right at the forefront of that boldest and noble endeavor, is Keurig.

In six stunning colors (our favourite is the burgundy – so chic!) and with such a sleek and stylish design, it’s hard not to love the K Select. Its simple yet effective controls bring you your well needed caffeine hit, just as you like it, every time.
Allowing for four different cup sizes, you can conjure up 6, 8, 10 or 12 ounces of whatever beverage takes your fancy in under sixty seconds. Combined with a huge 52 ounce water reservoir, you won’t be slowed down by refilling every single time.
All you have to do is pop in your choice of pod, pick out your brew size, and you’re moments away from a delicious drink. If you like your coffee intense, there’s even a Strong Brew button to provide a richer, darker flavor on those really tough days.
The removable drip tray is not only super easy to keep clean and rinse off, but also means this Keurig can accommodate travel mugs up to 7.4” tall – no more hoping and praying that your drink doesn’t spill everywhere… or heading to Starbucks!
For those early risers who hate the discordant sound of coffee beans grinding, you’ll be pleased to know that patented Quiet Brew Technology minimizes the noise produced by pouring your beverage, preserving your peaceful morning.
As it’s compatible with the My K-Cup reusable coffee filter, you can use your own choice of ground coffee beans to reduce the amount of single-use pods heading to landfill, which also serves to expand the capabilities of your Keurig in general.
Don’t worry about it losing that beautiful glossy sheen after a few months of use (especially those of you with grubby teenagers!) as the fingerprint resistant materials used in construction should minimize the appearance of smudges and smears.
The more forgetful among us may be reassured by the programmable auto-off and descale maintenance reminder functions, which ensures the longevity of your machine and will ensure your drinks taste just as good as they should.
Included as part of your initial purchase are a K-Cup pod variety pack with six different drinks, one water filter handle and a spare filter cartridge, which will also guarantee the highest quality of drinks for years to come.
As a bonus, if you’re one of those interesting folks who likes a cup of hot water, or simply prefer to avoid offending Brits by making your tea in the microwave, you’ll be pleased to know that by not inserting a pod, you can also have instant hot H2O.
It’s still hard to believe that this smaller version of the K15 actually weighs more than it’s bigger brother, but it does and apart from the obvious pound-age problem (which isn’t really an issue as the weight difference is just under half a pound), as much as we hate to admit it, the K Mini Plus is a better machine than our beloved K15.
Like it’s bigger, bulkier relative, the K-Mini Plus will brew differently sized cups of coffee, anywhere between six and twelve ounces, according to how much water you add to the reservoir, and it’ll also brew up a single cup of coffee from an individual pod in just under two minutes.
The coffee tastes great, and the Mini Plus has all the features that the K15 does, including the Sunday morning special ‘ Strong Brew’ button, which we always seem to need to get that extra kick start on the last day of the weekend.
It does have one incredibly neat party trick that we loved though, and that’s the storage bin that it comes with.
It slots neatly into the coffee dispensing part of the machine when it’s switched off and holds nine pods, so you can just pick and choose whatever you want from the non-random selection of your favorite flavors that you’ll store in it.
Okay, so it’s a little gimmicky, but it is a great storage solution that ensures that you’ll always have K-Cup pods on hand and won’t end up scrambling to find one at the back of a cupboard when you want to make a cup of coffee.
What’s not to love about this machine? It has all of the versatility of the K15 and while it has a slight weight problem, its compact size means that you’ll be able to find more than adequate space on your counter for it.
The Big Kahuna of the Keurig world, the K-Select is fueled by a fifty-two-ounce water reservoir which it uses in conjunction with the size of the pod that you load in the machine to know what size cup of coffee you want it to make (six, eight, ten or twelve ounce).
Once it’s made your coffee, like the other Keurig machines, it’ll shut itself off to save energy.
If we’re honest, much as we like the look of this stylish coffee maker, big isn’t always better.
Don’t get us wrong, it’s a great machine that also includes our favorite and always welcome “Strong Brew” feature and all of the bells and whistles that the other Keurig coffee makers do.
It’s just that we don’t see the point of having a larger water reservoir on a single cup maker, as it makes the machine bigger and defeats the original purpose of Keurig coffee makers.
John Sylvan wanted to make single-cup machines that brewed one cup, when you wanted it, whenever you wanted to brew it.
So what purpose does the larger reservoir serve? That said if you don’t want to have to keep filling the reservoir up every time you want to make a coffee, then maybe this is the machine for you, but it just felt a little redundant and pointless to us.
To The Victor Goes The Coffee Spoils
Having tried all three Keurig coffee makers and having lived with their individual quirks and eccentricities, much as we hate to admit it, one machine surpassed the others to claim the K-Cup coffee making crown.
After knocking out the Select in the first round, the Mini Plus, following a hard-fought battle with the K15, snatched caffeine victory and now rules our kitchen.
We never thought we’d see the day when Keurig made a better machine than the K15, but it would seem that coffee making wonders will never cease.
