If you are thinking of buying either the Keurig K-Elite vs. K-Select, then this buying guide will help!
Much like Cher and Adele, Keurig has taken the world by storm since their conception in 1992 and as such, everyone knows what you’re talking about when you mention their name – those nifty little coffee makers.
Whether it’s a classic cup of Joe, mug of tea, hot cocoa… even lemonades, ciders and fruit based beverages, they’ve got you covered whatever your favorite flavor, with over 400 different varieties of their classic K-Cup pods.
As they’ve been manufacturing coffee makers for over twenty years, there are a heck of a lot of different units to choose between, from their classic Single Cup Brewing System (now discontinued) or the brand new K-Duo and K-Minis.
Today we’re going to be taking a look at two incredibly popular models from their lines, the K-Select and K-Elite machines from 2017 and 2018 respectively, to determine not necessarily which is superior, but most suited to you, the customer.
First we’ll have a look at their individual merits with a thorough review each, and then provide a breakdown of which machine might be best suited for you, so don’t worry if decision making isn’t your strong suit. We’re here to help! Happy brewing.

Keurig K-Elite vs. K-Select – Reviews
First, Let’s Look At The K-Select (2017)
In six stunning colors (our favorite is the burgundy – so chic!) and with such a sleek and stylish design, it’s hard not to love the K Select. Its simple yet effective controls bring you your well-needed caffeine hit, just as you like it, every time.
Allowing for four different cup sizes, you can conjure up 6, 8, 10, or 12 ounces of whatever beverage takes your fancy in under sixty seconds. Combined with a huge 52-ounce water reservoir, you won’t be slowed down by refilling every single time.
All you have to do is pop in your choice of the pod, pick out your brew size, and you’re moments away from a delicious drink. If you like your coffee intense, there’s even a Strong Brew button to provide a richer, darker flavor on those really tough days.
The removable drip tray is not only super easy to keep clean and rinse off, but also means this Keurig can accommodate travel mugs up to 7.4” tall – no more hoping and praying that your drink doesn’t spill everywhere… or heading to Starbucks!
For those early risers who hate the discordant sound of coffee beans grinding, you’ll be pleased to know that patented Quiet Brew Technology minimizes the noise produced by pouring your beverage, preserving your peaceful morning.
As it’s compatible with the My K-Cup reusable coffee filter, you can use your own choice of ground coffee beans to reduce the amount of single-use pods heading to landfill, which also serves to expand the capabilities of your Keurig in general.
Don’t worry about it losing that beautiful glossy sheen after a few months of use (especially those of you with grubby teenagers!) as the fingerprint-resistant materials used in construction should minimize the appearance of smudges and smears.
The more forgetful among us may be reassured by the programmable auto-off and descale maintenance reminder functions, which ensures the longevity of your machine and will ensure your drinks taste just as good as they should.
Included as part of your initial purchase are a K-Cup pod variety pack with six different drinks, one water filter handle, and a spare filter cartridge, which will also guarantee the highest quality of drinks for years to come.
As a bonus, if you’re one of those interesting folks who like a cup of hot water, or simply prefer to avoid offending Brits by making your tea in the microwave, you’ll be pleased to know that by not inserting a pod, you can also have instant hot H2O.
- Four different drink sizes to choose from
- Removable drip tray allows for the use of travel mugs
- Strong Brew function presents users with a more intense experience
- Compatible with My K-Cup pods – use your own coffee beans
- Can’t be used to make iced coffees and other cold beverages
Now It’s Time To Check Out The K-Elite (2018)
Although it’s been officially discontinued, the Keurig K-Elite is still up for sale from a wide variety of retailers and one of the most popular units in their line of coffee makers, available in gorgeous shades of gold, silver, and black.
Combining a premium finish with highly programmable features to provide a technologically savvy brewing machine, its striking brushed details and metal accents make a truly beautiful addition to any modern kitchen.
Five cup sizes allow you to customize your brew size between the range of 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 ounces, whilst the extra-large removable 75-ounce water reservoir brews up to eight cups before requiring a refill. Streamline your morning coffee routine!
Special features of note include the Strong Brew button that intensifies your coffee’s strength and flavor, access to hot water on demand, and the Quiet-Brew technology that enables your machine to run at much quieter decibels than the average unit.
If you’re a fan of iced coffee, which has seen a boom in popularity in recent years, you’ll be thrilled by the presence of an Iced setting, which allows for coffee to be brewed over ice at the touch of a button, and it won’t dilute your flavor either!
If you prefer your Americano extra hot, then the adjustable temperature settings will come as a great surprise, as they let you establish just how hot you want your coffee to be. Hate waiting for your cup of Joe to cool down? Change that temp!
Compatible with the My K-Cup Universal Reusable Coffee Filter (which is sold separately), users have the choice of using their own ground coffee to brew, without the need for messing around with a Moka Pot or French Press.
An energy-saving programmable auto on/off feature will reduce your energy bills, increase the machine’s lifespan overall, and contribute in a small way to the fight against environmental issues.
In line with the design of most contemporary Keurigs, the removable drip tray means it can accommodate taller travel mugs 7.2” and below, so there’ll be no more stressful cleanup when running late and waiting for coffee!
As part of your purchase, you’ll also receive a replacement water filter and handle, in order to maximize the delicious taste of your favorite K-Pods for longer and prevent any buildup in your machine.
- Large 75 oz reservoir and five different cup sizes
- Iced coffee and instant hot water settings
- Quiet Brew and Strong Brew technology improve the experience
- Brewer maintenance reminds you when it’s time to descale
- More expensive than the K-Select

|My K-Cup Compatible?
Okay, you’ve heard all about both machines, but if you’re anything like us, maybe you need someone to really spell out the differences before you can make your mind up? Hopefully, the above table goes some way to helping, but let’s talk it through.
Both machines are worthy investments for coffee lovers, and as they’re both compatible with My K-Cup, you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars a year on those reusable pods to enjoy either of them, if you don’t want to.
Pricewise, the K-Elite is more expensive, as a result of its slightly more contemporary design and a couple of extra features, but realistically, the K-Select is just as good when it comes to classic coffee consumption.
If you’re a huge iced coffee fan, you might be swayed by the Elite’s ability to whip you up a refreshing cold glass in under a minute, and if you eat plenty of oatmeal, the instant hot water function eradicates the need for boiling on the stove!
Bigger households and larger families might appreciate the increased reservoir on the Elite, though the Select is only 23 ounces smaller, so it’s a matter of five cups per refill versus eight. Those three cups might make a difference, though!
Those who prefer a shorter coffee could also consider the opportunity to brew up a 4oz cup on the Elite, where the Select only goes as low as 6oz, but again, this only really matters to a certain subset of coffee lovers.
Again, the Elite and the Select have the same compatibility when it comes to hot drinks, but only the Elite is able to make those refreshing iced beverages, which start at coffees and extend all the way to lemonades and ciders!
Whichever machine you choose, we’re sure you’ll be satisfied!
