The Coffee Cannon Pod Pistol

August 16, 2020

Have you ever found that your morning coffee routine is a little mundane? Looking for a little hardcore kickstart to your day, where you can enter your morning like Bruce Willis. (Yippee Ki Yay optional).

That’s right. If you’re a firearms enthusiast and coffee addict who has been looking for the perfect opportunity to combine your two passions, then we have a treat for you.

A project that recently got posted to crowdfunding site Indiegogo presents a niche opportunity to get involved in something that’s so crazy it might just be magic.

Introducing the Coffee Cannon Pod Pistol where your love of caffeine and guns can be brought together in this brave new world.

Let’s look into the background of this project in a little more detail and see how it works.

What is the Pod Pistol?

As quoted on their Indiegogo page, the Coffee Pod Pistol is a magazine-fed, bolt-action coffee pod dispenser.

Store your K-Cup coffee pods in the magazine and once the pod has been actioned, pulling the trigger releases the pod from the chamber into the grenade-launcher attachment. Launch the pod into your hand and make yourself a fresh cup of Joe.

While it doesn’t necessarily answer the “why” question, there’s no denying that there’s a wild amount of ingenuity behind this invention.

In essence, think of it as a giant Pez dispenser, but instead of sweet candy goodness, you’re looking at a coffee pod ready to go into your coffee machine and help you kickstart your day.

What’s the story behind it?

The product is the brainchild of Dan Pronk, from Adelaide, Australia. A former soldier with the Army Special Ops, it’s fair to say that Dan knows how to handle a firearm.

After leaving the forces, Dan studied for an MBA. But finding himself missing some of his Army days, he wondered if there was a way to incorporate his business learning with his Army experiences.

Most notably, he missed the chance to operate guns that had been a daily reality for him. And so the concept of the Coffee Cannon Pod Pistol was born.

To make the concept make a little more sense, it helps to look at the Pod Pistol the way that Dan does. He was inspired by the fact that the shape of a coffee pod and a bullet have some striking similarities – the rounded tip and wide, flat base.

Clearly, Dan wasn’t the only one who thought so, and with the help of an industrial designer, he managed to create the first 3D printed prototype.

The Development of the Pod Pistol

Over several years, Dan has refined and honed the production of the Coffee Cannon Pod Pistol. It currently comes in one size, that is perfect for the K Cup pod system. (There are also plans in the future to expand to accommodating other pod systems.)

Each magazine can hold up to four pods, turning the concept of storing your coffee pods into the chance to play with the mechanisms and loading, and enjoy the tactile sensation of lock and load.

Throughout the process, Dan has joined forces with his friend and business partner Dusty, who is an active duty Police Officer. His addition to the team has allowed for more innovation, such as the moulded Picatinny rail on top of the pistol, which mounts any standard attachments.

Why Invest In This?

We have to admit, this quirky design and project is pretty niche. But if you’re looking for a playful way to match your love of coffee and your love of guns, then investing in the Coffee Cannon Pod Pistol will see you become one of the early Alpha Team of buyers.

The plan for the first production run is to make 2800, and investing in the project will not only contribute to bringing the project to fruition but also see you as the proud owner of a unique product.

If you’re not sure that you want to get totally involved with the product, or are hoping for a later run (perhaps that fits your coffee pod of choice) there is also a collection of Coffee Cannon merchandise which will support Dan and Dusty to bringing their idea to life. This includes hats, shirts, mugs and stickers in several styles.

Where do I Find Out More?

You can find out more about this crazy but cool product on their Indiegogo campaign.

Conclusion

It’s fair to say that this invention isn’t going to be everybody’s cup of coffee. And it’s unlikely to hit the spot if you don’t have a love of guns and gadgets. But if this is something that appeals to you, then the project looks like a playful opportunity to get a new toy in your life that still serves a slightly practical purpose.

The cost of investment isn’t particularly high – you may get yourself a Pod Pistol for $45, and merchandise runs at typical market costs.

So if you’ve found yourself in a similar situation to Dan and Dusty – with a longing for firearms and a need for a morning cup of Joe, take a look at the Coffee Cannon Pod Pistol and help support this unlikely cause!

What is Indiegogo?

Here are the words from Indiegogo itself:

Indiegogo is an online crowdfunding platform that brings Users together and allows Users to seek to raise funds for their own Campaigns and to contribute to the Campaigns of others. Campaign Owners can offer Perks to Contributors in thanks for the Contributors’ donation of funds.”

A ‘campaign’ is a fund-raising effort by a particular person, group, business, or company. If you invest in a campaign then you may receive the product or service advertised and this is called a ‘perk’.

However, you should understand that Indiegogo is not a shopping platform which means that even if you do invest in a product or service you may not receive the product or service.

As detailed in the Indiegogo terms of service

“Indiegogo Does Not Guarantee that Campaigns Will Succeed or that Perks Will Be Delivered or Deemed Satisfactory. By contributing to a Campaign, Contributors are supporting an idea, project, or cause they care about and want to help make happen. Like anyone getting in on an early-stage project, Contributors accept the risk that the Campaign may experience changes, delays, and unforeseen challenges, or that a Campaign, and its Perks, might not come to fruition”

So the main message here is ‘investor beware’ and only invest what you can afford to risk. OK?
